Great Hiking Shoes And They Are Really Waterproof

This is the very first time I have purchased a pair of shoes that are really waterproof. I use these shoes for bird watching which means we walk through wet grass and muddy places. I have worn them 4 or 5 times and my feet have been perfectly dry each time. I only hope this continues for at least 6 months to a year. I do have a question though. Should I treat them with Nick Wax also or will that ruin the original waterproofing.
If these last as I hope I intend buying a pair of high hiking boots for actual hiking. Thank you I am at this point very pleased with the purchase.
